Cummins Fault Code 6753
Overview
Fault Code: 6753
PID:
SPN: 7936
FMI: 9/9
LAMP: None
SRT:
Loss of communication with the Route Parameter Manager Module or OEM Predictive Cruise Control module.
Predictive cruise control will not operate. Standard cruise control may not operate.
Circuit Description
The Route Parameter Manager is an electronic module that communicates the Look-Ahead route data to the ECM. The ECM utilizes the Look-Ahead route data to calculate the necessary information to support the Advanced Dynamic Efficient Powertrain Technology (ADEPT™) electronic features. This occurs automatically when the module is properly installed on the J1939 vehicle network. When a Route Parameter Manager is detected, Cummins® Predictive Cruise Control is selected. Cummins® Predictive Cruise Control can also be enabled by approved OEM predictive cruise control module.
Component Location
The SAE J1939 data link wiring and the SAE J1939 devices vary by OEM options.
Conditions for Running the Diagnostics
This diagnostic runs continuously when the keyswitch is in the ON position or when the engine is running.
Conditions for Setting the Fault Codes
The Engine Control Module (ECM) did not receive a message from a multiplexed device.
Action Taken When the Fault Code is Active
- The ECM logs the fault code immediately when the diagnostic runs and fails.
The predictive cruise control will not operate.
Conditions for Clearing the Fault Code
- To validate the repair, perform a key cycle, start the engine and let it idle for 2 minute.
- The fault code status displayed by the recommended Cummins® electronic service tool or equivalent will change to INACTIVE immediately after the diagnostic runs and passes.
- The “Reset All Faults” command in the recommended Cummins® electronic service tool or equivalent can be used to clear active and inactive faults, as well as extinguish the MIL for OBD applications.
Shop Talk
Possible causes of this fault code include:
- The Route Parameter Manager Module or the OEM predictive cruise control module is not receiving power.
- Certain ADEPT™ parameters enabled without a Route Parameter Manager Module or OEM predictive cruise control module installed
- Open circuit in the power supply wire.
- Rapid cycling of the keyswitch
- An open or short circuit on the J1939 data link circuit between the ECM and the Route Parameter Manager Module or between the ECM and the OEM predictive cruise control module.
- Intermittent communications between the ECM and the Route Parameter Manager Module or between the ECM and the OEM predictive cruise control module.
- A damaged termination resistor in the J1939 data link.
